Vexa shrugged. "Not from me." She said dryly, she stood up straight and spun on her heel to face the door. "My apologies for killing the runt. He made me lose my temper. You should know how quickly my blood boils." She said coldly.
"Yeah." Demyx nodded. He looked over to where Masina had dissapeared. "I've been with Masina since Axel first introduced her to the organisation five years ago. She's my best friend." He looked back at Kara and smiled. "Though her emotions may rage out of control, I'd trust her with my life."

Axel nodded. "Still, for now it doesn't matter." He said. "No extra work will be given out because things are relatively quiet for now. I have all the experiment hosts I need for now." He was referring to what he had revealed to Skarlia in that dark room.
Kara smiled again. She wasn't looking at Demyx now, she was looking at the ground. To anyone who knew Kara well, they'd know she was smiling sadly almost, as though she was happy for someone even if she herself was not. "You two are great together," she said truthfully. "It's nice to watch you two. You really know each other well." She looked up at Demyx. She was still holding that same smile. As for her... she didn't know if anyone knew her anymore. She had changed. For one, some time ago she would've always stood by Demyx and never let him go. But now... now she could truly see the big picture. "Do you love her Demyx?" It was a genuine question. Without jealousy or spite or hatred. It was like a friend helping another and her voice was soft and sweet like a summer breeze. It was time to let go.

"Uh huh." Vexa nodded and walked out of the room. "Tell Skarlia that I said welcome to the organisation." Her voice was emotionless, as was her expression as she closed the door. Whether she was being sarcastic or not was unknown to even her.
Demyx froze at Kara's question. He looked at the floor. He had never really thought about that since Kara had come back three years ago. He had told Masina that he loved her. He had meant it as well. "I told her I did once. It was just before you came back. About half an hour before your sister showed up." He said quietly. "I'm not sure though. She's different. It's like she's forgotten who she was. Lost herself somehow." He sighed as he looked up. "She misses Axel and the old Masina is in there. But she doesn't want to show herself right now." Not even to me.

Kara nodded. "I understand," she said. Her voice rippled with memories of when she was younger, when she looked after her younger siblings, the voice of a girl who had a purpose but nothing to look forward to and only sweet memories to guide her on. And yet that voice she once carried was an optimistic one, one that would put others before herself no matter what happened. Another smile broke across Kara's face. "I want you to be happy. If you really do love her, I want you to be with her." Her hair swayed slightly in the breeze as she said it, as though whispering to her the memories of the past. She pushed them away. Memories were nothing compared to the present.
Axel watched Vexa leave before lying back on the bed again. He closed his eyes for a few moments and suddenly the connection was open. He had honed it well from what he'd learnt from studying Texaelle, Vexa and Roxas. He could finally speak to his Somebody through the mind.
Reno flinched slightly as a sharp pain stabbed at his head. So, I finally got this thing focused, Axel projected his voice into Reno's head. What do you want? Reno asked, even though he didn't react after the flinch. Just wanted to invite you to my lovely apartment. Why? We have things to discuss.

"Reno?" Herutsu looked over at him. The pool cue fixed tightly in his hand. "You okay mate?"
Demyx looked at Kara in confusion. "Wait, what about you?" He asked her. He didn't know whether Kara still felt for him what she used to, but if she did, why was she saying this? Even though, it took Demyx a while to realise. He still meant what he told Masina on that fountain three years ago. He did still love her.
Masina followed Lura. Alarmed suddenly when Lura stopped. "What is it?" Lura transformed back into a human and turned to Masina, she looked in the direction of Demyx and Kara. "Demyx. You two are close." "Yes." Masina nodded. "You care about each other." Lura was saying these statements rather more like questions than facts. "Yes." Masina nodded again. "You love him." Lura said after a long pause. Masina froze. "What?" "I can tell by the way you look at him." She explained. "After Kara explained that you two fight like wolves play-fight, I knew why you look at him the way you do." She smiled. "Because you love him." "You come up with that all on your own?" Masina said sarcastically. "You do, I know it. I bet Ayla does as well. Think about it Masina, what if Demyx returns those feelings to you?"

Kara glanced up at Demyx again. She smiled kindly. "Does it really matter?" She said softly. She chuckled quietly, the laughter eaten up by another breeze. "I'm sure you two will be better together. There were far too many complications between us anyway." Her eyes locked onto Demyx's for the first time in years. "Just promise me you'll be happy and look after her."
Reno shook his head. "Um, I think I'm just tired," he shrugged and span the pool cue between his fingers. "Seriously I need to reclaim my own weapon. Guns suck..."

"Here then. It was downstairs." Herutsu held out his hand, the one that did not hold the cue. "I believe thi belongs to you, Reno." He chuckled. Though his laugh was as empty as Ayla's was. Herutsu had adopted a kind of sixth sense for when people were lying. Which was why he was good at his role in this organisation.
"She's just like Ayla." Demyx sighed. "In the way that she never sticks around long enough for anyone to look after her. No matter how much I try to." He looked back in Masina's direction.
"I can't do that though." Masina shook her head quickly, her black hair swaying gently with her. "To Kara." "What makes you think that Kara isn't telling Demyx the same thing I'm telling you?" Lura asked her. "Huh?" "I'm a wolf, kind of, my hearing is very good. Better than yours."

Kara looked away and her hair swayed again. "So... is this it?" She asked, her tender voice like the waves lapping gently at the shore. Holding on when walls were crumbling in her mind.
Reno took his weapon gratefully. "Thanks," he said. "You have no idea how much I missed this." He placed it down against the wall and examined the position of the pool balls.

"No prob." Herutsu nodded to him. He leant against the wall, staring at one of the posters as he waited for Reno to take his shot.
"I, I guess so." Demyx nodded. "Huh?" He spun around to see Lura leap up onto the roof. "Lura?" She was in her human form. Lure usually went everywhere in her wolf form, this made Demyx slightly uneasy as Masina was nowhere to be seen. "Where's Masina?" "Don't worry Demyx." She smiled at him. "She's fine, just wanted to go somewhere. The fountain near Leon's? I don't know who Leon is or where he lives, but she said she just needed to go there." "The fountain?" Demyx was puzzled. That fountain? The one where? Where Demyx and Masina admitted what they felt three years ago?

Kara's eyes fell to her feet. "Well, have fun." She said, turning to walk away. Holding back everything to stop herself from either sprinting away or letting tears fall. She was thinking of Demyx and he was happier with Masina. So he would go with Masina.
Reno took his shot when another pain pierced his head again. Don't ignore me. Reno held his head and glanced at Herutsu. "Can we continue this game later?" He asked. "I have a killer headache. Sorry." He flinched as more pain struck him and to stop himself from crying out he broke into a sprint as soon as he left the room. Out of the house and towards the town. As he did, even though he was looking for Kara, he spotted a corridor of darkness. Yes it's from me. Go through it. Reno approached it, letting go of his head. He reached out and touched it. He realised his weapon was in his hand; he'd instinctively grabbed it as he'd left. He glanced about briefly before walking through, the corridor closing behind him.
Texaelle's eyes burst open. She had been dreaming, most of her dreams consisting of what Kara was saying. And then she'd been bombarded with a vision from Kara's sub-concious mind. Reno. He was going to Axel. But what Axel had in mind wasn't anything that Reno was expecting. "Cloud!" She shouted and the blonde-haired man dashed into her room. "What is it?" He asked. Texaelle quickly explained the vision. Cloud sighed as she finished. "I'm going," he said. "I'll go get him. You stay here and look after the city." "No, it's too dangerous, Cloud," Texaelle protested. "I'll go. My life isn't as important as your's." Cloud shook his head. "Don't say that!" He told her. "You're ill anyway, you said so yourself. Send me there." Texaelle knew his mind was made up. "Fine," she sighed reluctantly. Cloud already had his sword strapped to his back. She held out her hand and black flames began to appear around Cloud. "Good luck."
Reno walked slowly through the castle, glancing about cautiously. There was no one about. He finally made it to the top floor and he noticed a figure on a balcony. He recognised him as he span round. Axel. "Welcome to the Castle in the Sky," Axel said. "Nice to see you joined me." "Not as if I had much choice," Reno replied dryly. Axel walked past him and Reno followed, leading him to a room. They both entered and it was pitch black inside. Reno followed Axel's footsteps until they reached another door. Axel opened it and Reno followed. Inside was the Experiment Room. For floors down there were large tanks with people inside; young and old, male and female, tall and short, dead and alive. They seemed unconcious, but a few were dead. And by a few I mean a half. The stairs led down to another floor and each floor was in a circular shape with a large circle gaping hole in each floor that led down to the bottom floor of the Castle in the Sky. Reno peered down and saw a huge beating heart, chained in place, seeming to strain under the huge chains. There were horrific 'operating' tables with straps on to hold down 'experiments' and drill-like machines hovering over them. There were a few doors here and there, but Reno didn't want to think about where they led. "This is the product of three years," Axel said, his arms up as though proudly showing off this huge room of torture. "Here is where all of our experiments take place." "What are you doing to them?" Reno growled. "Conducting research," Axel replied. "Extracting hearts from some to add to our main Heart Stream that is collecting down there." He motioned to the giant heart. "It keeps this place in the air. The rest... we harvest from." "What do you mean, 'harvest'?" Axel smiled slightly. "They're called Heart Stones," he explained. "Which is the nicest possible term for them. They basically give the sense of a heart to a Nobody, but not the full extent of one. They give more power and increase the energy a Nobody has when angry. They can become addicting to collect though to 'feel' again and the bloodlust it brings on. That's why only a few of us have them." He paused. "They will lead to us finding the Heart Stones we need, the 'X' rank ones. These ones will collect until they join together to form us new hearts. But these ones will be better than our old hearts. They'll give is strength beyond any other's and the power to do as we please." "And how do you extract them?" Reno feared the answer. Axel looked at Reno. "We inject darkness straight into the experiment and wait a few seconds for the skin cells to die off. That leaves us with something not quite alive but not quite dead. Then we take the heart, inject it with so much darkness it shrivels back into a stone. The corpse is disposed of." Reno backed away. But Axel was behind him fast. "And with your heart, my heart," Axel grinned. "I can finally build my perfect heart."

Demyx looked around nervously, the reason for his nerves was unknown. "Lura, take a look around from up here would you?" He asked her, his voice was thick with nerves. "Sure." Lura nodded and transformed into a wolf. She sniffed the air before looking around, her eyes eemed to lock on something as the golden iris widened. As she morphed back into a human, she began hitting her hands against her head. "Red hair, spiky, not Axel, ponytail. I know Ayla told me his name. Just went through the corridor of darkness. I recognised the scent on the other side, the corridor was sent by Axel." She said quickly. "Reno?!" Demyx said, shocked. Why would Reno be going to Axel? "That's his name." She shouted. "Reno! He went to Axel."

Kara leapt from the rooftop and walked through the alley, her head low. How many years was that that she'd just left behind for another? Still, they were never solid years and something always got in the way. She closed her eyes in a desperate attempt to stop the useless tears from falling. And that's when the voice came. Kara, I haven't got much time, Texaelle cried. What is it? It's Reno. He went to Axel. He was told to go by Axel and he did. I don't know what's going on though. Cloud went after him. Kara's heart leapt queasily. I'll go too. No, Cloud can handle it. Axel wouldn't kill them like that. He would have a reason for this. Keep me updated, Kara replied. She had no way of getting there, Texaelle wouldn't let her go and she didn't want to go back to Demyx after that. Did life have something against her?
Axel lunged for Reno but a flurry of black flames appeared before him and he was thrown back by a huge sword. Axel regained his balance quickly to see Cloud stood in front of Reno. "Cloud?" Reno whispered. Cloud leapt at Axel, who held a chakram out in his right hand, slashing at Cloud with the other. Cloud retaliated and slashed at Axel again, this time hitting. Cloud and Reno needed to get out of the Castle for a teleport to happen. Texaelle couldn't teleport them when they were inside the Castle. Axel moved with great speed and soon managed to knock Cloud down. He approached Reno again who held his Electro-Mag Rod up, spinning it in one hand. The two collided in battle, hacking and slashing but everytime only meeting the other's weapon. Cloud managed to stand again and dashed up behind Axel, who spotted Cloud out of the corner of his eye. He span around swiftly and flames span with him in a twister of ember. The two were thrown back, trying to beat out the flames that had caught their clothes. "Oh come on," Axel smiled darkly. "I expected better of you two." Cloud leapt at Axel again, who span to face him and slashed, but at the last moment Cloud swirved, forward-rolled and came up behind Axel, slashing him across the back. Axel was thrown into the railings, just managing to stop himself being flung over the edge. He turned and surprised the two by revealing he was smiling. "You're getting better," he admitted. "But it's not enough." He moved so fast he was a blur and the next thing Reno and Cloud knew they had burnt gashes across their chest and they were on the floor. Axel appeared back where he'd been. "You just don't have the speed." He laughed quietly as he watched Reno and CLoud struggle to their feet. "It looks like it ends here." His chakrams vanished and he held out his hands, the palms facing Reno and Cloud. Reno dashed forwards to try and attack, but was hit squarely by a blast of fire. He smashed into the back wall and Cloud shook him lightly. He was unconcious and his head was bleeding. Cloud glared at Axel, anger washing over him. "What have you become?" He roared. Axel shook his head. "My ideals have changed," he shrugged. "Now, If you would kindly let me have Reno, I won't have to kill you or even invite you to stay in that lovely cell..." A blast of darkness smashed into Axel and he was thrown sideways, managing to leap up to see his attacker. A lone woman stood there, her left palm raised. She lowered it and glared intensely at Axel. "It's been a while," she said. "Texaelle," Axel smiled again. "What's wrong? Xemnas isn't here anymore." Cloud stared at Texaelle. "What are you doing here?" "Go!" She told him sharply. "Take Reno and go!" Cloud staggered to his feet. "Texaelle-" "Go!" She ordered. Cloud noticed she had a tear rolling down her cheek. Reno stirred as Cloud heaved him up, Reno's arm round Cloud's shoulder. Axel rolled his eyes. "Fine, but this doesn't end here." He locked eyes with Reno. "Oh, and by the way, I think you'd better have a word with Kara. You may want to ask about another reason she left Shinra so suddenly." He glanced to his side where a shadow had fallen across the ground. A man appeared from the darkness, his flaming red hair matching that of Axel... and Reno. Lexu. Reno stared between Axel and Lexu. "You may be interested to know Lexu's real name." Reno glanced at Cloud, who was looking at Texaelle. "Godspeed, Texaelle." Texaelle nodded, watching Cloud and Reno leave. Axel waved away Lexu. "I know you've been observing but it's fine. I'm sure I can kill this naive woman." Lexu nodded. "What about those two?" "Leave them," Axel shrugged. "I'll take them down fairly." Lexu disappeared and Axel raised his chakrams. "So, you've come walking into the slaughter house, Texaelle? What's wrong, nothing left to live for?" Texaelle had her eyes to the ground. "Spill my blood, you can do that. You have a toy to play with now. Get it over with; they're waiting for me." Axel found himself wondering how this Nobody could feel like this when she was supposed to feel nothing as he slid forwards, aiming for her throat. Cloud and Reno made it near the door when they heard the heart-wrenching scream. Another had fallen before Axel. He had spilt another's blood. Cloud and Reno looked away, knowing they both would run back for revenge if they looked on too much. They got outside to see a corridor of darkness, ready from Texaelle. The two left the world, reluctantly leaving Texaelle to fade in the slaughter house.

"Go and find Masina. I'm going for a walk." Lura told Demyx sternly. Then she ran off the building and down the street. Demyx sighed and covered himself with black flames.
He reappeared beside Masina, who was asleep on the wide ridge of the fountain. He sat down beside her. Watching her silently. He jumped as she gasped and sat up. Tears rolling down her cheeks. "Ina? What is it?" Masina turned to face him. She breathed in heavily and released her breath. "Why is everyone dying?" She hugged Demyx suddenly. "Why did he do this? Why did he have to change so much?" She cryed and Demyx hugged her back, holding her against his chest. "It'll be fine." "Don't let him hurt you. Or Kara or anyone else. I don't want you to go away again." She looked up at him and he smiled kindly at her. "I'm not going anywhere." He placed his hand on her cheek. "And as long as I'm here, no one and nothing will ever touch you Masina." He leant forward and pressed his lips to hers. Masina froze. She slowly relaxed, she fully relaxed as Demyx pulled away from her. "Nothing." He repeated. "Sorry, but it looks like you're stuck with me." He chuckled hugging her again.
