Kara listened to all of these updates on Ayla. She hoped that Rildax would go back to her soon. He was so good with her. Kara glanced up at Masina again. "I'm fine," Kara said. "Skarlia... well, I only knew she was alive recently. She's changed a fair bit because of everything that's happened, but I think she's hanging in there." She sighed. "She still seems to be trying to prove something." Kara fell into silence in thought. Because of that she knew it wouldn't be long before Lyrin used that to get Skarlia to do many tasks for the Resistance. That's how it seemed anyway. There was a slight breeze that rippled Skarlia hair as she stepped off the ash and on to the firmer terrain that proceeded to take her to the North, where there was a few houses intact. Within her heart she knew she was doing this for one simple reason, a stupid one it seemed because of all that had happened, but nonetheless it was Skarlia's almost selfish desire. She was doing this to see Axel. She made it higher up a large hill that dropped steely on the other side, down to a newly growing plain. She crouched against the top of the hill, peering over to spot four figures appearing in black flames. The first she noticed was Axel, his firey hair standing out against the green grass. She saw Arxbi there, his red eyes the colour of blood. A girl she knew as Sarxial was there, her bored expression easily recognisable. There was another she didn't see the face of, as she was facing away from Skarlia. "So you saw them, then?" Axel asked Arxbi, who nodded quickly. "Yes," he replied, "there was Demyx, Kara and Ayla." Skarlia looked on in astonishment. Her father was alive? And her mother was safe then, she was with him. And Ayla... she was there too. "Alright," Axel said. His emerald eyes gazed at his three underlings. "Keep your eyes open," he told them. "There's an intruder here. There was a Gummi ship spotted dropping someone off." "Any idea who it is?" The girl facing away from Skarlia asked. Axel's eyes seemed to have a spark of life zip through them as he hesitated. "No," he lied.

"Yes, superior." Xyrina nodded, she looked over her shoulder at Fexier. She cast a ball of water in her hand and launched it at him, hitting him square in the face. "What the hell was that for?!" He scowled at her, shaking his head. "Stop sulking." She scowled. Those two were pretty close, that was obvious. For that moment, they were exactly how Axel and Masina had been. "I am not sulking." He narrowed his eyes again. "Yes you are. Get over it. You got what you wanted. The girl might be dead by now. You figured out how to kill her." "But if she's not dead, the real task is going to be how to even get near that tattoo. You have to hand it to Texaelle. When she gave her that tattoo, she basically gave the girl a deathwish." Fexier smirked as Xyrina turned fully to face him. "Just get going." She hissed. Fexier smirked and dissapeared. Xyrina stood there with her fists clenched. "Idiot. He's gonna get himself killed."

Axel's eyes passed over the new arrivals with something close to a greeting. "At least you're here now," he said. "Or I would have personally chased you down." Skarlia watched the other two appear. Ayla. What was going on? "So how many people survived the fire?" Axel asked and there was a moment of silence. "About one hundred and ten," Sarxial sighed. "Give or take." Arxbi glanced at Xyrina before his glance was back on Axel. "Out of?" Axel continued. "One thousand," Sarxial finished. "So about a tenth survived." Axel nodded. "You've located them. Where are they all?" "They wandered the desert for some time before going with Rildax to a tiny 'city'," Arxbi said as Sarxial looked away, appearing once again bored. "There's an oasis there so they are pretty happy there." "Do we go there next, Superior?" Karxitarr chipped in. There was a moment of silence. "No," Axel said. "Leave them to it. There was a high population of Resistance members in that city, and they'll be dead now. That was the idea." More silence. "Should we find that intruder?" Karxitarr asked. Axel's eyes fell on him. "If you must," Axel said and Karxitarr vanished. "The rest of you. Unless you have anything else to say, I trust you have other business." Kara looked at Masina quietly. She glanced at Demyx thoughtfully. She wished there was more she could do now. Anything.

Xyrina looked at Axrbi out of the corner of her eye. She did not acknowlage hi as he dissapeared. when he had done, she turned to Axel. "Superior, you have known about the girl's tatto for years. How did something that is basically the only way to kill her, slip your mind?" Xyrina froze then bowed her head. "Sorry, but I was curious. About Ayla. Her mind and body seem to be different to Herutsu's. She heals faster in her body. But her mind is her vulnerable point right?" "Huh?" Elle froze. She closed her eyes. "Painful memoies or what?" She mumbled, she walked over to the table where her bag was and took out the same needle from earlier. "Something wrong?" Herutsu walked in as Elle reached Ayla's side again. His eyes were fixed on the needle in her hand. "The dose of anesthetic I gave her, only sent her into a dream state, she's reliving all her memories." "Does that matter?" "Herutsu, she died, twice, remember? I don't know what might happen f she relives those memories. It might kill her." "So might more anesthetic." "We have to take that chance. There is a larger chance of her dying in the dream than because of the anesthetic. I know what I'm doing. Just leave." Herutsu scowled, but he slammed the door shut as he left the room. Elle injected Ayla again. "I'm sorry about all of this, Ave. But you should learn your limits." She pulled the cover back and then placed it over Ayla, leaving her two arms out of it, resting on her stomach.

"I'll let you settle your own disagreements," Axel said, his voice inches away from containing humour. "And I do agree, Texaelle did something half decent by giving Ayla that tattoo. Get to that and that's one less person to worry about." Axel's hair seemed to bristle slightly as thoughts passed through his mind, an icy breath of wind coursing through the valley that had nothing to do with the weather. His eyes flashed as he seemed to realise something and his eyes darted upwards, so close to Skarlia she gasped and ducked down. His eyes settled on the others again and Skarlia crept forwards again. Arxbi glanced at his Superior. He knew a little about what it had been like for Axel three years ago. Now and then it was as though recognition washed over him before anger and hatred replaced it again. Axel... well, apparently he used to be close to human. Now he wasn't even a Nobody. He was beyond that now. "Superior?" Arxbi finally said. "You seem tense. What is it?" Axel turned his gaze to Arxbi. "I am curious as to who this intruder is," he said. "And I am mulling the situation over with the last people alive who could jeopardise our operations." "Understood," Arxbi said. "I will go assist Karxitarr, Superior." Axel nodded absently as Arxbi smiled briefly at Xyrina and disappeared in flames. Sarxial, looking for something to do, disappeared herself without a word to Axel. He didn't seem fazed by this.

"Hey." Herutsu spotted Rildax and walked up to him. He hid one hand in his pocket. He had not had chance to wash Ayla's blood off his hand yet. He didn't meet Rildax's eyes. He stared at the floor. "Uh, Ayla. She, uh." He didn't know what to say, so in the end he stopped talking all together. Elle watched Ayla cautiously. Her breathing was normal again, kind o. She daren't take the mask off in case she stopped breathing again. The anesthetic had worked. She was okay, she wasn't dreaming, and she wasn't dead. Elle was pleased with that. But still slightly unsure. It was as though Ayla was indestructable usually. How could some one so strong be so fragile at a single part of them? Why was her weak spot her mind? She walked out of the door, leaving Ayla alone. She would be able to tell if something went wrong. She eventually found Herutsu she walked over slowly. "Told you it wouldn't kill her." She said sarcastically. Then she noticed Rildax. "Oh. Hi." She said quietly. "Kara?" Masina looked at her carefully. The worry in her eyes resmbled Evalaine's. "What's wrong?" "Huh?" Demyx also examined Kara, but he did so rather more with caution than with worry. "Second that question. Whats the matter?"

Axel glanced at Xyrina. "I was seeing if you and the others had the mind in you to find out for yourself." He sighed quietly. "I chose you all for your brains and brawl, if you remember. I expected you to figure it out without me." Skarlia watched intently as Axel began to walk slowly around in a sort of circle, his boots leaving large imprints in the grass. There was a moment in which Skarlia was certain Axel could even hear her nervous breaths, but it seemed whatever he'd heard he disregarded, as he kept walking. Well then, Skarlia thought. You've changed a lot, Axel. Rildax stood up and Cloud and Khali looked at him. "Are you going back?" Cloud asked. "Yeah," Rildax replied. "I may return soon. If Texaelle comes back, tell her to prepare. She'll know what I mean." Rildax was engulfed in flames. He arrived inside Evalaine's home and began to walk along, looking about for anyone he knew. Kara froze to the spot suddenly, a jolt of visions rushing past her eyes. They were so scrambled and so sudden Kara hardly had chance to make them out. She put a hand to her head as it span slightly after the visions faded. She could just about make out what some were about. "God damn it..." she muttered, annoyed.

"I'm not sure, sir." Xyrina admitted. "Ther might be if you believe there is. But have no idea. The only people who would know, are the people who have died." She explained. "Sorry for saying their names superior, but from what I gathered on the information from Ave, Masina and Roxas, believed strongly that there was something else after their lives. Ave, not so much." She said quietly. "Why do you ask?" She questioned him cautiously. "Uh," Herutsu looked over at Elle. "I'm just the doctor, you can explain it! Besides, you have a lot better knowledge on it than me." She held her hands up. "Not much." Herutsu sighed. He looked back at Rildax. "Ave, as she is known now, her body over the past few years has learned to heal itself rapidly. But the tattoo on her back is still there. Her hair hides it, but she can't get rid of it. The pain it used to send through her is nothing compared to what it does now. The apin is so intense, it could kill her. But, if the organisation wanted to kill her with bloodspill. All they have to do it touch that tattoo then hit her. Because the pain covers up the instinct to heal the body as it is too busy trying to locate the source of this pain." "It's not just that." Elle interupted. "It does something else now aswell. I'm not sure what, but something like it can access her mind. Her mind is Ave's weak point. In heart and body she is strong, and her mind is also, but it is not immune to pain like the rest of her. It creates the illusion of pain, and that is what could destroy her. The organisation finally figured out. The only way to kill Ayla, is to destroy her from the inside." Elle closed her eyes. "I should probably check on her. Uh, do you think he should come? She doesn't exactly look great remember?" "I know." He took the had covered in her blood from his pocket, "It's not likely I could forget. Rildax. Come on." He nodded and Elle ran off up the stairs. "Sorry, she ran off. It was more than Xyrina just being curious, she has been spying on Ayla, but I think Ayla knew that. Anyway, she is under anesthetic and needs help to breath. Elle had to inject her quite a bit to stop her coughing and stop the pain. But she should be okay now. But she won't be awake yet." He explained to Rildax as he began to walk.

Kara took a few breaths of deeper air as she replayed the images in her mind, trying to slow them down. "Vision," she said. "Well, visions. Too many to identify them all. But..." Her eyes closed, trying to find evidence that the vision wasn't true. "It-it was about... the Organisation. And..." She saw the horrific image again. "They were researching something. There were corpses everywhere, so badly beaten and attacked, their faces... were..." Her eyes opened. Her hands shook as she tried to release her mind of the imprint of the image. Rildax looked between Elle and Herutsu with speechessness for some time. "What the heck's happened?" He finally managed to say. Skarlia inched forwards again, daring herself to get closer. Axel was facing away now and had stopped walking again. His cloak blew towards the direction he was facing as he stared into the distance. "Do you believe in something after death, Xyrina?" He asked, his voice sounding almost as it did three years ago. "Or is there just nothing?" It was an odd question, Skarlia thought, but at a time like this it made her think for a moment.

Axel fixed Xyrina with his gaze as he swivelled on one foot to face her again. His eyes were thoughtful, showing some kind of life in them. "Three years ago I never wanted to die," he said. "Too many people to look out for. And I wanted no one else to die. And now... if there is life beyond death, I almost envy those who have gone on to that life." His eyes floated up to the sky. "Fascinating thing, death..." Rildax's face remained expressionless as he looked at the two as they spoke. But anyone that knew him would know his face was expressionless when he was very concerned about something. He nodded. "I would like to see her, if it's alright," he said, his voice soft and velvety. He followed Herutsu slowly, thinking about Ave. Kara leaned back against a wall, her eyes fixed on the floor. She was trying to go over a particular image she'd seen, but it was like a slippery fish; she kept grasping for it but it slipped from her fingers just as she was about to identify it.

"Well, it doesn't seem too fascinating to the ones that die I suppose." Xyrina smirked. "But it is pretty fascinating. Even humans find it that way. It is the one thing, no one knows anything about. Even my somebody had no one, she never knew what it was like to know love or care. So I guess, I wouldn't know that feeling, Superior." Herutsu was silent as he led Rildax to Ayla's room. He removed his non blood covered hand from his pocket and opened the door. Her looked at Elle cautiously before his gaze fell to the girl on the bed, using the mask to breath. Elle motioned for him to come in. He stpped into the room and leant against the doorframe. "Herutsu?" Elle said his name in a worried tone. "I'm fine. I'm just going to get some fresh air." He walked out onto the balcony of Ayla's room. Elle sighed. "Come on." She motioned for Rildax to come over.

Rildax walked into the room, his eyes falling on Ayla. His breathing seemed to get heavier ever so slightly and his hands found the pockets he'd purposely put onto his new outfit. He wanted to tell her everything would be all right, wake her up and tell her that. But he couldn't. He was powerless. He felt a rage buiding in him but he'd managed to gain control over his anger over those three years and he pushed the anger away completely. "Who did you say did this?" He asked gently, his voice surprisingly firm, not shaking at all. Axel nodded. "I see," he said. "My Somebody... I do not know if they are alive or not. Personally I couldn't care less if they are or not. They can't hinder anything we do much at all." He ran a hand through his hair and Skarlia remembered that habit. She knew she should go back to Lyrin with the information, but there were two reasons why she wouldn't. Number one, it was dangerous with Organisation members looking for her. Number two, and the most important one, she realised deep within her heart that had frozen over the years that through all the pain and all the sorrow of those lost to the flames, she still loved Axel.

Elle rested her hand on Ayla's forhead and sighed. "Herutsu said it was Fexier. He was the one that brought her back here." Her eyes changed direction from Ayla to where Herutsu's shadow was visible against the curtains of the balcony doors. "She was in a pretty bad way when Herutsu found her though. Any longer, well. I don't understand it. Why did they wait until now to do this? When Axel should have known all along?" She closed her eyes and took her hand off Ayla's forehead and stepped backward. "I should check on the people Ayla found in the desert. I'll leave Ayla with you for now." She walked over to the doors and poked her head out to speak to HErutsu. "Hey." "Hi." "I need to go and check on that woman you brought in before." Herutsu nodded and offered his hand to Elle. She took it ad they dissapeared. A few seconds later Herutsu reappeared without Elle, he leant against the wall by the door and watched Ayla silently.

Rildax nodded to Elle and his gaze turned back to Ayla. Rildax leant against the wall, his arms folded. "You got yourself into a mess this time..." he sighed quietly, watching Ayla as thoughts began to unravel in his mind. Axel seemed to drift away even further, as though he wasn't even there anymore. His entire mind was elsewhere, scattered among other things that even now haunted him: memories. His emerald eyes would not tear away from the sky and as Skarlia watched she swore she saw the faint outlines of a smile flicker across his face. God damn it, she thought. You are still in there, aren't you?
