Ayla froze at the voice she heard. It was a voice she hadn't heard in three years. And that voice belonged to some one she had cared about immensley. She spun around. She saw Rildax stood there. This was one of the very few times in her entire life when Ayla had nothing to say. Her eyes changed back to their old blueish grey, the coldness in her expression changed to shock and happiness at the same time. She rolled her eyes at his question as she breathed out, it was then she realised she hadn't been breathing. Her breath was shaking, but she smiled as she finally spoke. "That is the most stupid question I have ever heard. Of course I have!" She closed her eyes and slowly opened them again. "I thought you were dead." She said breathlessly.

"I live on," he smiled. He hugged Ayla, his cloak whipping around him softly. He was thinner than last time Ayla saw him, but he had somewhat broader shoulders and his hair was slightly longer. The muscles in his arms and legs had expanded considerably. "Don't ever leave me again," he whispered. Skarlia found herself thinking back to that dream she'd had. How Axel had looked so stunned and upset. How he had promised that he would never hurt her. Could that really be how her life ended? "Skarlia," there was a knock on the door. "Enter," Skarlia mumbled and Kara opened the door. Skarlia didn't look at her. "Lyrin said he wanted you to go to find Axel at one of his meeting places," Kara said. "Tell him I'll be ready in ten," Skarlia sighed. "It's fine," Kara said. She swallowed. "Lyrin doesn't understand how you're feeling right now. So I told him I'd go." "No you won't," Skarlia said, getting up and finally looking at her mother. "I'm going. Lyrin sent me for a reason. He still holds the theory that I can get through to him." "It's not the same Axel anymore," Kara said. "Anyway, I convinced him you couldn't go when you're like this. So you're staying here." Skarlia eyed Kara for a moment, knowing she wouldn't back down. "Fine," she said. "But be careful." "You know I will," Kara said and left, closing the door behind her.

Ayla sighed. She wrapped her arms around his neck and hugged him back. Both of them looked a bit different. Ayla knew he did, but knew that she did as well. Her hair was considerably longer and darker, and she was taller. Like Rildax, she was skinnier as Ayla rarely ate. She got food for Herutsu and the people they helped but it was rare she ate. Her skin seemed a bit paler. Her eyes changed colour and were only ever their old colour when she was happy or in a good mood. And that was definately rare. She closed her eyes as she whispered back to. "Don't plan on it. As long as you don't leave me." She spoke quietly. Beneath her eyelids her eyes were normal again, and a tear rolled down her cheek. "I've missed you so much." She whispered.

"I've missed you too, Ayla," he said. "So what are you doing now? I myself am known of quite a bit in stories. My new title is the Desert Mirage." He motioned to his new outfit. "I have to wear this to survive in the worst sandstorms. I never know when I'll see Oasis City again." He looked towards the dunes he'd appeared over. "I've been walking all day." Kara leapt through the darkness silently, her eyes alert once again. She saw three figures below, Axel, Arxbi and Karxitarr. These were the ones she had been sent after. "...so they will probably try to launch an ambush," Arxbi was saying. "Superior, I suggest we prepare some Dusk and so on just to be on the safe side." Axel smiled. "It's too obvious." His eyes glanced at Arxbi, who looked away immediately. "There's got to be something else behind this." And then he vanished into black flames. Kara crept closer to see if he was there but then every single atom in her froze. "Spying, are we?" Axel whispered in Kara's ear. He had appeared right behind her. Kara didn't move or speak. "I won't kill you," he promised. "But I won't let you go back to the Resistance either. I know you found them." Kara still wouldn't move. Axel's strong hand closed around Kara's wrist. "Come," he said. "Your brother is waiting." And with that the three Organisation members disappeared in flames.

Ayla took a step back. She glanced in the direction that the sandstorm was heading toward them from. She looked back at Rildax. "I travel a lot." She said simply. She bit her lip before she carried on. "I work with Herutsu in a way. We use Cid and Evalaine's houses to send people who have lost their homes and their families. Thats where those people went. Evalaine assured us we could use her house before, she, well." She cut off. "Aren't your feet hurting? There is a little girl named Lilly waiting at Evalaine's. Herutsu promised her that I'd go back today. She was the first person we helped. I saved her from the fire, the one Roxas, died, in." She closed her eyes and sighed. "I never go back, and never stay in one place for long. Brings back memories just about everywhere. You know, you are one of the most awkward people to try and forget ever? I have had you stuck in my head for the past three years." She said sarcastically. She smiled kindly at him.

Rildax's handsome face turned into a beam. "I'll come with you," he said. "There's someone back at Oasis City that you really wouldn't want to see right now." He winked playfully. "I've missed you every waking second. I wish everything could go back to the way it was before Axel... well, you know." Axel reappeared in Cloud's cell. Kara had to look multiple times before she recognised the war-torn face of her brother. Axel let go of her wrist and she ran to him, kissed him and hugged him tightly. "Cloud!" Tears streamed down her face. "What have they done to you..?" Cloud rested his head on Kara's shoulder as she spoke. "Kara..." he muttered. "I-I've missed you." Kara turned on Axel. "You evil son of a-" she went to attack him but he grabbed her wrists easily. His face leaned closer to her's. "Don't tell me what evil is," he snarled before throwing her back. "I'm leaving you two together. Perhaps you'll figure a way out." Kara reached for her swords but realised they were in Axel's hand. He walked out and locked the door. "Where's Enzeru?" Kara asked. "Is he..?" Cloud nodded towards the cell next to them. Enzeru's body was still lay in a heap. Kara clasped her hands over her mouth and crouched by the bars, stroking Enzeru's fur. "He had become a monster because of them," Cloud sighed. "They treated him like a wild animal. So he became one."

"Meh, Axel is a pain in the arse. But we'll live. Okay, bad choice of words." She smirked. She hugged Rildax again. "Same here." She smiled. She closed her eyes as she traced everything that had happened before and since all of this started. She held onto Rildax tighter, another tear rolled down her cheek. Things that had hurt her the most because of Axel. Yuffie's death. And being separated and thinking Rildax was dead. She bit down ard on her lip. "Please don't leave me again." She whispered.

"Nah," he said. "We're together through this now, ok? You and me. And Herutsu." He grinned again. "I'm sure my little city won't mind if I leave them for a bit." "So now what?" Kara asked. "Wait, how long have you been here?" "Don't know," Cloud said. "A year, tops." Kara nodded gravely. "Right," she said. "And they've left you on there all that time?" "No," Cloud admitted. "Only for the past six months. Before that I got out, so this was my punishment." "So how do we get out?" Kara asked. "Can you open these?" Kara got up and walked over to her brother. She touched the cuffs lightly. "Perhaps," she said. "But we should plan a way out before that." "Right." Cloud was silent for a moment. "We need to get out and it'll be worst to get out in the day. The majority of them are out at night though. Did I mention this place was suspended in the sky?" "Ah," Kara sighed. "Could be a problem. Unless I get in contact with Texaelle." "Why her?" "She's better now. Honestly, no joke. She'll help because she has literally nothing now, if it was possible. She'd lost everything anyway, but getting kicked out of Organisation XIII was the end of her." "Alright," Cloud said. "We'll try tonight then."

Ayla smiled at him as she let go. She grabbed his hand in hers. "Herutsu would freak. You do know that right?" She smirked. "Though I'm not sure if it'd be a good or a bad way." She closed her eyes and her long hair blew across her face. Uh, Herutsu, I have a surprise for you. What is it? Uh, Rildax. What about him? It, is him. Ayla told him in her mind, he fell totally silent. "Okay, for once he has nothing to say."

"So... does he still hate me?" Rildax laughed and held Ayla's hand. "God, I better hope he doesn't hate me as much as Organisation XIII." His eyes glimpsed to the cloud of sand in the distance. "We should be going now," he advised. "Lyrin, where are you going?" Skarlia asked as Lyrin began to accend the stairs to the exit of the Resistance Base. She followed him. "That's none of your concern," he growled. "Go be depressed in your room or something." It was noticable how much his anger was rising. At what, Skarlia was unsure. "Lyrin, you can't leave now," she said. "It's dangerous. And there are Dusk everywhere. If even one sees you they'll-" "Leave me alone!" Lyrin roared before exiting the base. Skarlia didn't follow the order. She waited a few moments before exiting herself. She followed Lyrin for a mile before he stopped. His face began to contort in pain as he roared an inhuman roar. He was doubled over in pain and something began to burst through his skin. Fur. His human body began to break in two as a stronger form burst out underneath. And as this powerful new beast stood there, a sword slung tightly across its back and ripped trousers on, the rest of its clothes in tatters, Skarlia could only think one thing. Lyrin was a werewolf. The beast howled in the moonlight and thundered through the city, its golden eyes glinting menacingly. It was about seven feet tall when on its hind legs and its fur was a very dark grey, its chest and the underneath of its face a lighter grey. Skarlia chased the beast, but she stayed on the rooftops whereas Lyrin stuck to the floor, his heavy pants rolling up from alleys in a series of powerful echoes.

Ayla closed her eyes, she seemed to be listening to something. "I'm not sure. To be perfectly honest, neither of us knew you were even alive remember? But I'm glad that you are." She added, a slight smiled appeared on her face as her blue eyes opened. "Let's go then." She nodded, she smirked as the two of them were engulfed in black flames. As the flames subsided Ayla whispered to Rildax. "You don't want to know how I can still do that." She smirked. "Ave!" A little girl's voice rang out and a small blonde girl ran straight into Ayla, grabbing her leg. "You came back!" "Hey there, Lilly." She patted the girl's head. "I promised didn't I?" She glanced at Rildax out of the corner of her eye before looking back at the girl. "Lilly, this is Rildax. Rildax, this is Lilly." She smiled at Lilly before looking at Rildax. The girl let go of Ayla and smiled broadly at Rildax. She bowed her head and spoke as she rose again. "Nice to meet you sir!"

Rildax smiled kindly at the child. "It's nice to meet you too, Lilly," he said. His eyes darted about and he looked back at Ayla. "So, show me more of this place," he said. Skarlia spotted a heap of Dusk closing in around Lyrin. He stopped, growling at the Dusk. There were about thirty of them in all. Lyrin would be pinned. Skarlia leapt from the rooftops and stood with her sword in her hands. "Lyrin," she said, the two back-to-back. "I know you're in there. We need to work together. Ok?" The werewolf seemed to understand, as they both attacked the Dusk, Lyrin never attacking Skarlia. Night. It was time to escape. Kara passed her hand over the shackles one by one and they clunked off. Cloud dropped slightly, his ankles and wrists worn away with rubbing against the shackles, almost to the bone. Kara passed her hand over the bars, but they didn't slice. She tried again. Still nothing. Kara found the lock and held two fingers to it and the door swung open. The two ran through the corridors, Cloud reluctant to leave Enzeru's body. They skidded around a corner and found themselves at a dead end. There was a window above them, just large enough for one of them to get through. Cloud held his hands together to give Kara a boost-up but then a voice broke out. "So you finally got out," Arxbi grinned. "The Superior expected you to faster than this." Kara realised again that she had no swords. Neither did Cloud. She stood in front of Cloud. "Get going!" She said to her brother. "No," he said. "Now!" Kara ordered. "If you stay too then we'll both die. I'll give you an advantage over him." Cloud remained silent. Then he was lifted into the air by Kara's abilities over contorting reality. He was forced through the window and when he landed on the other side he couldn't reach up to the window again. Angry with himself, he felt black flames consume him as Texaelle appeared behind him. "Just you and me," Arxbi smiled. He put away his flail-like weapon and prepared for a weaponless duel. "I guess so," Kara replied.

"Sure." Ayla looked from Rildax to Lilly. "Lilly, why don't you go up to your room for a bit?" Ayla smiled at little girl. She smiled back. Lilly's eyes darted to where Ayla's hand was still holding Rildax's. Her smile got broader and she nodded. She seemed to be in thought for a moment. "What is it?" Ayla asked her. "I think I've seen Rildax before. In a photograph Herutsu gave me." Lilly explained, her smile still broad. "It was of four people, he pointed them out in pairs. You and Ridax, and him and that other girl, I can't remember her name." "Yuffie." Ayla said quickly, a slight sound of pain in her voice. "Yes, that was it." Lilly's smile faded as she saw the sadness in Ayla's expression. "I'll go draw now." She said just as quickly as ayla had and ran off. "Come on." Ayla said quickly pulling Rildax along with her. "I'm grateful to Evalaine. This is her home, and it's huge." Ayla explained as they walked into a large dining room. A few people were sat on the chairs around some long tables. A young woman, about the same age as Ayla, walked over cheerfully. "Ave, it's been a while." "Sorry about that Elle." Ayla greeted the girl. "You know I rarely come back here." This is also the base for all of the people that help me and Herutsu. I am rarely around. So it's unlikely anyone will ever find me here. She told Rildax in her mind. Then Elle spoke to her. Hey Ave, who's he? Elle's thoughts entered her mind Elle's flirtatiousness bounded with them. "Elle, this is Rildax, Rildax, this is Elle. She is kind of the doctor." Ayla looked at Elle, who smiled flirtatiously back at Rildax. It would have been pretty obvious if either of them looked how uncomfortable Ayla was with Elle flirting with him. But she never said anything, she hadn't seen him for three years, she had no idea where she stood with him now.

Rildax smiled kindly at Elle. "Hello," he said cheerfully. "Nice to meet you, Elle." His voice had become velvet again, just because he was trying to be nice. But as to flirting, he was being neutral. He turned to look around the large house. "Well, I wish I had enough time to live in a huge house like this." He smiled. "I get a little one that I stay in for six hours a month, if I'm lucky." Kara leapt forwards, planting her feet into Arxbi's chest and kicking him back. He retaliated easily and as Kara tried to punch him he side-stepped her and threw her into the floor. "You disappoint me, Kara," Arxbi taunted. "Axel promised me a better fight." Kara growled and leapt to her feet, slamming her arm sideways to knock into Arxbi's head with immense force. But Arxbi grabbed her wrist and twisted it back. "Keep trying," Arxbi taunted. "I'm sure you'll be able to." Kara twisted her arm back and kicked her leg sideways into Arxbi's legs and he collapsed. He leapt up and smashed his fist into Kara's chin and she was knocked down, Arxbi standing over her. "So you'll kill me, here and now?" Kara laughed weakly. "Go ahead. All the ones I care about are all grown up or gone." Arxbi looked mildly surprised. "So who will be waiting for you?" Arxbi placed his foot on Kara's neck, not putting too much pressure on it. "Heh, you should know that," she smiled, her eyes closing. "You and Karxitarr were his best friends, until he got friends with Masina and Axel." Arxbi smiled. "Then I suppose this is somewhat of a relief for you." "Guess so." Kara raised her eyebrows briefly. "Go ahead. Make it quick please. Death is my friend and I don't want to keep him waiting." Arxbi watched her on the floor. He felt almost sorry for her. "Go on then," Kara said. Arxbi hesitated. His foot moved from Kara's neck and Kara's eyes opened. "What?" She asked. "I can't kill you," he said. "You're close to Demyx. He wouldn't want me killing you." He glanced to where Cloud had left. "That doesn't mean one of the others won't kill you."

Elle glanced at Ayla. She saw the expression on her face and hers changed. It seemed to change to care. She closed her eyes. Ave, who is or was, he to you? You heard Herutsu talk about the man I was in love with? Ah, I apologise. No need, Elle. Ayla nodded to her. Her face was expressionless, the way Elle was used to seeing her. "Herutsu asked you to tend to some injured people that he brought from the fire. Also the desert. Have you seen to them?" "I was on my way there now miss. Peter wished to speak with you when you have a minute." Elle bowed her head to Aylla, before smiling at Rildax and walking past them. "Weapons room miss." She said as she exited. It was odd how her respect for Ayla seemed to change from friendship to respect for a boss or higher member of community in a short moment. It was the same respect that Lilly had showed when she had left. "Well, I'm not exactly here often. Maybe about a hour or so, every few months." Ayla said lifeless;y as she continue to walk. She took her hand from Rildax and held them behind her back. "Miss." A few men and women nodded to her as they passed. She nodded back to them, the expression on her face, it was clear the atteniotn and respect was not something Ayla liked. She glanced at Rildax sadly as they crossed into the next room. A man sat on a stood, carving something. As they got furthur into the room it became clear it was a sword he was sharpening. He looked up as Ayla entered. "Ah, Ave miss." The man placed the swod down and stood up, he glanced at Rildax before looking back to Ayla. She had frozen whilst walking. "I wished to speak with you about something." "Couldn't that wait until she doesn't have company, Peter?" Black flames emerged in the doorway ahead of Ayla. She smirked as Herutsu stepped from them. "Ayla." He nodded to her. "Peter could you excuse us a moment?" Pete nodded and walked out of the door. Herutsu turned to Rildax. "It's been a while."
